Traditional free verification is now reserved for accounts with significant public notability: major news organizations, government agencies, major entertainment brands, or accounts with widespread documented public recognition. Most regular creators and businesses must pay for verification via Meta Verified.
How to Apply for Meta Verified
1. Open Instagram > Settings > Meta Verified. 2. Choose a subscription plan. 3. Submit government-issued ID for identity verification. 4. Complete payment. The badge appears within 48-72 hours after approval. If your ID doesn’t match your account name exactly, the application will be rejected.
Benefits Beyond the Badge
Meta Verified accounts get proactive account protection (faster response to impersonation), direct access to human support (significant upgrade from the standard help system), and exclusive features including custom Instagram links and profile frames. For businesses, the credibility signal can meaningfully improve customer trust.
