Why WhatsApp Web Won’t Connect
WhatsApp Web lets you message from your computer’s browser by linking to your phone. When it won’t connect, you can’t sync messages or type from your computer. This guide covers every connection failure scenario for UK users.

Fix 1: Phone Must Be Connected to Internet
WhatsApp Web requires your phone to have an active internet connection. Unlike the desktop app, WhatsApp Web routes all data through your phone. Ensure your phone’s WiFi or mobile data is active. Check WhatsApp is running in the background on your phone.
Fix 2: Re-scan the QR Code
QR codes expire after 30 seconds. If you scan but wait too long before the pairing completes, you need a fresh code. Close WhatsApp Web, open a new tab, go to web.whatsapp.com, and scan the freshly generated QR code immediately. Don’t switch apps during the scan.

View Contact OptionsFix 3: Browser Compatibility
WhatsApp Web works best in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari (latest versions). Internet Explorer is not supported. Try a different browser to rule out browser-specific issues. If one browser fails, try Chrome as it has the best WhatsApp Web compatibility.
Fix 4: Clear Browser Cache
Old cached WhatsApp Web sessions can conflict with new connection attempts. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload web.whatsapp.com. Log out of all existing WhatsApp Web sessions via WhatsApp > Linked Devices > Log Out of All Devices.
Fix 5: UK Network Issues
Some UK corporate and school networks block WhatsApp Web. If you’re on a work or educational network, try using mobile data hotspot instead. BT and Sky broadband sometimes flag WhatsApp Web traffic. Temporarily disable any network-level filtering or contact your IT department.
