Why Facebook Memories Stop Working
Facebook Memories surfaces old posts from your account history matching today’s date. When working properly it shows posts from years ago. In 2026, Memories failures have become more common due to algorithm updates and privacy setting changes.

Fix 1: Check Memories Settings
Go to facebook.com/memories. Click the settings gear icon. Ensure Memories notifications are turned on and you haven’t accidentally hidden all your memories. Check the ‘On This Day’ and ‘Memories’ sections to see if specific time periods have been excluded.
Fix 2: Privacy Settings on Old Posts
Memories only surfaces posts that have public or friends visibility. If your old posts were set to ‘Only Me,’ they won’t appear in Memories. Go through your timeline and change visibility on posts you want to see in Memories.

View Contact OptionsFix 3: Clear App Cache
On Android: Settings > Apps > Facebook > Clear Cache. On iOS: Reinstall the app. Old cached data can prevent Memories from loading new content. After clearing, open Facebook Memories directly at facebook.com/memories.
Fix 4: Posts May Not Exist for That Date
If you weren’t active on Facebook in previous years, Memories simply has nothing to show. The feature requires past posts on the same calendar date. Check if you were using Facebook at this time in previous years.
Fix 5: Account Too New
Memories requires at least one year of account history. If your account is less than a year old, Memories won’t have anything to show yet.
