If Instagram is not sending your SMS verification code, first check that your phone number is entered correctly with the full country code. Then try requesting the code again after a few minutes — there can be a delay or temporary block if too many requests were made. Also check if your mobile carrier is blocking shortcodes, as Instagram uses short numbers to send SMS codes.

Reviews can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. If you don’t hear back, you can try submitting another appeal through help.instagram.com. Avoid creating a new account while your appeal is pending — Instagram may view this negatively. Keep checking the original login screen for any update on your case status.

When Instagram disables your account, you should see a notification on the login screen with an option to “Request a review.” Tap that and follow the steps — you may be asked to verify your identity with a photo ID. This is the primary appeal path. Be honest and clear in your appeal; Instagram’s review team looks at whether the disability was a mistake or a policy violation.

Also check your original email inbox — Instagram sends a message saying “We noticed a change to your account” with a link to reverse the email change. This link stays active for a short window so act quickly. If you missed it, the video selfie route is your best option. Make sure to do this from a device and location you normally use, as Instagram uses this to verify your identity.

If your Instagram account was hacked and both your email and phone number were changed, use the “Get more help” option on the login screen. Tap “Forgot password?” then “Need more help?” — Instagram will guide you through a video selfie verification process to confirm your identity. This is the official recovery path when you no longer have access to the email or phone on the account.

Also note that Facebook limits how often you can change your name — typically once every 60 days. If your change was recently rejected, wait a bit before trying again. If you go by a nickname or a name you’re commonly known by, that can also be used under their policy, but you may need to provide supporting evidence like mail, a utility bill, or a social media profile showing that name.

Facebook requires names to follow their real name policy — no symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, or titles. If your name was rejected, it may be because it looks like a business name or contains special characters. Try submitting your name exactly as it appears on a government ID. If rejected again, you can submit an ID through the review form at facebook.com/help/contact/1288553891328639.

Another option is to reach out via the Meta Business Help Centre at business.facebook.com/help if your account is linked to a business page — support options there are more accessible. You can also try the Facebook Accessibility channels or Facebook’s official Twitter/X @Facebook and @Meta accounts, though response times vary.

Facebook does not have a public phone line for regular users. Your best bet is facebook.com/help — look for a “Still Need Help” or chat option at the bottom, which sometimes appears for billing-related issues. For account recovery, use the dedicated flow at facebook.com/hacked or facebook.com/id.

Without backup codes try the Get more help link on the login screen. Facebook will ask you to confirm your identity with a photo ID. It takes a few days but it does work. I went through this exact situation after changing phones.

If you set up backup codes when you first enabled 2FA this is exactly the situation they are for. Check any saved notes or your password manager — Facebook provides 10 one-time codes when you first activate 2FA.

Be specific in the appeal — explain your account history, how long you have had it, and why the disabling was a mistake. Vague appeals tend to get ignored. Keep it polite and factual for the best results.

I had my account disabled last year. Go to the Facebook Help Centre and fill in the appeal form. Use your real name and upload a clear photo of your government ID. Mine was restored within 10 days of submitting the appeal.

Also check your original email for any Facebook security alerts. If the hacker added their own email you have a 30-day window to reverse that change via a link Facebook sends to your original address. Act quickly on that.

This happened to me too. The first step is to use the Compromised Account recovery at facebook.com/hacked rather than the normal login. From there you can verify your identity and reset your password without needing access to the old one.
