Instagram keeps saying it sent a 6-digit SMS code to my phone but I never receive it. I have tried multiple times over the past few days. My number is correct, I have signal, and SMS works fine for every other app. I also tried the “Get a call instead” option but that also never comes through. I am locked out of my account completely. Any suggestions?
If Instagram is not sending your SMS verification code, first check that your phone number is entered correctly with the full country code. Then try requesting the code again after a few minutes — there can be a delay or temporary block if too many requests were made. Also check if your mobile carrier is blocking shortcodes, as Instagram uses short numbers to send SMS codes.
As an alternative, switch to email-based verification if your email is still accessible — go to “Get more help” on the login screen and choose the email option. If you have a backup authentication app (like Google Authenticator) linked to your account, that will work too. If all else fails and you cannot get in, use the “Need more help?” path which leads to Instagram’s identity verification process.
