🚑 Emergency Account Recovery Checklist
If your account is hacked, disabled, or you can’t log in — follow these steps immediately in order:
1
Try facebook.com/login/identify
Use this page to find your account via name, email, phone, or username — even if your email was changed by a hacker.
2
Report the Hack at facebook.com/hacked
Facebook’s official hacked account page — triggers a secure review process and may unlock account recovery options.
3
Secure Your Email Account First
Before recovering Facebook, make sure the email linked to it hasn’t also been compromised. Change your email password and enable 2FA.
4
Submit an Identity Verification Request
If you can’t regain access via email/phone, submit a government ID through Facebook’s official identity verification form.
5
Alert Your Friends & Contacts
Notify people on your friends list that your account was hacked — a compromised account is often used to send scam messages to your contacts.
6
Check Active Sessions & Remove Unknown Devices
Once recovered, go to Settings → Security → Where You’re Logged In and log out of any unrecognised devices.
❓ Common Account Help Questions
How long does a disabled account appeal take?
Facebook typically takes 1–30 days to review disabled account appeals. Complex cases involving identity verification can take longer. Always check your Support Inbox for updates and avoid submitting duplicate appeals.
What does “Account Disabled” actually mean?
It means Meta has suspended your account for violating Community Standards or Terms of Service. This can range from posting prohibited content to identity issues. Depending on severity, it may be temporary or permanent. You can usually appeal through the Support Inbox or specific appeal forms.
Can I recover a permanently deleted account?
If you permanently deleted your account, Facebook gives a 30-day grace period to cancel the deletion by logging back in. After 30 days, the account and all data is irreversibly deleted and cannot be recovered by anyone, including Facebook.
Why does Facebook keep asking me to verify my identity?
This usually happens if your name doesn’t match your ID, if suspicious activity was detected, or if your account is flagged for potential impersonation. Submit a clear, valid government-issued photo ID to resolve it. Use the specific identity confirmation form rather than the general contact form.
Two-factor authentication is locked out — what do I do?
If you’ve lost access to your 2FA method, try using backup codes (if saved), trusted contacts (if set up), or submit a trusted device request. If all else fails, the identity verification path via facebook.com/help/contact is the last resort — though it may take several weeks.
What’s the difference between deactivation and deletion?
Deactivation is temporary — your profile is hidden but data is retained, and you can reactivate at any time. Deletion is permanent — after a 30-day grace period, all data is erased. Deactivation is always reversible; deletion is not.
